Do you actually mean opening or simply being loaded

at startup??? If the latter, go to RUN type msconfig and the startup tab and remove the X from the program. Then when you reboot the XP dialog box will confuse the H out of you. To understand that post in the XP forum. LOL

Otherwise, it would seem likely that the opening option was selected within the program.

You could have helped by telling which programs were "opening".
