How do i prevent packet loss?

I've been having problems connecting on online games / having a lot of lag on them. I contacted a support for one of the games and they told me I was having these problems because of packet loss. And also my internet crashed a lot throughout the day and I don't know if that can be caused by packet loss.

A client was complaining of this and we fixed theirs. How?

Since they only needed it for their own use, we removed the WiFi router and wired their PC directly to the cable modem. It became solid as a rock compared to before.
