Question

How do I map my external IP to another server

Dec 17, 2016 1:03PM PST

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a crashed server which will take some time to repair. I want to have my external IP point to a second server currently in use. I can not change internal IP addresses of the servers. This will be temporary so I can't make an major changes to the working server.

I will add the necessary services the the temp server but i have to set it up so that the outside world goes to it when they search for the domain.

Dead Server: Windows Server 2011 SBS
Live Server: Windows Server 2008 R2

Thanks again.

I'm a little concerned.

Since those versions of servers can support a second network card and you can put the old address on the new card, why isn't your IT staff fixing this with a 10 buck card?

What's the hold up?

Great idea. KISS solution.

I'll suggest it to them. I think they are focused on the live server and getting everything pointing to it with its current address.

Switching the cords will solve any connection issues but we need to route our external IP address to the working server.

Thank you for the reply. All ideas are a help.

"I want to have my external IP point to a second server currently in use."

Since it's to point at a server, then DMZ it on the router to the server you want to be accessed from the external IP address. I'm assuming you are speaking of a static IP address from your ISP.
