Question

How do I make headphones work with Smart TV..

Mar 13, 2018 4:40PM PDT

that does have the headphone jack?

I have the following Smart TV and Headphones:

TCL 32" Class HD (720P) Roku Smart LED TV (32S301) (see audio info in last paragraph).

Sony MDR-XB550AP Extra Bass wired headphones

When I plug the headphones into the Jack on the TV, I can hear if I turn the volume clear up on the TV. But only from the right ear, and it still is not loud enough. They won't be adjusted to normal listening. The left is just way too low.

I would like to know why they won't work with the TV, and also, if anyone can recommend a "type" of headphone that will work?

Thank you for any help. I thought when I got a TV with a headphone jack my troubles would be over but no, evidently you can't plug in just any headphone set.

Note: This TV has no info in the Manual to do with the Headphone Jack, other than it has one.

Also, there is one, setting only with this set called Audio Effect and these are the different ones (and I tried them all)

Big Bass
High Treble
Music
Normal
Speech
Theatre (thought this one would work but nope)

Answer
Since only one channel works.

This will either be a bad set of headphones or a TV with a bad jack. There is no user fix for this one. Check your warranty on both products.

Note: Sorry for spelling error. Corrected with edit.

Nothing wrong with my TV or Headphones

Update for anyone else reading this thread:

There was nothing wrong with the headphones, at all, or the TV. It was the cord I bought to extend the length from my TV to my chair. I removed that and plugged the headphone cord itself, into the jack and they work perfectly. I had an extender cord and tried removing that and they worked.

I would not have guessed that/

" I plug the headphones into the Jack on the TV,"

Don't leave out those details next time.

Didn't have all the info

I didn't "have" those details until I was told about it on another forum. People that aren't educated enough (like me) to figure out the problem come to these forums for help figuring out the "whys".

The guy on the other forum said it could be the "jack" itself, or the plug on the headphone. I took it from there.
