Question

How do I make customized paper size appear in paper size lis

Mar 27, 2012 4:13AM PDT

Since upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium I can no longer use any of the HP Printing software that came with the HP 5280 All In One Printer which I had set up with custom paper sizes to print large panorama photo's,eg 420mm x 210mm.
I know the printer is capable of printing photo's this size as I have printed many panoramic photo's in this and similar sizes when I was running XP.
I have set some custom sizes in Print Server Properties and the settings are being saved there but they do not appear in any paper size lists in Windows or in the HP printer preferences.

This is the procedure I'm following.
1) Click start menu, then Control Panel, and finally View Devices And Printers.
2) Click printer in the list(HP 5280),then click Print Server Properties.
3) Click Create New Form, type a custom paper name in the Form Name text box and enter the desired paper size under Paper Size.Click the Save Form button, and the new form is present in the paper list.
4) Close and reopen the application.

I have done this several times and all the custom sizes I create are in the list in the print server dialogue form but none of my custom sizes appear in the paper size options in windows or in the HP printer preferences.
Am I missing something?
Is there another way to to do this?

How do I make customized paper size appear in paper size

Sorry for the late reply,Internet has been shaped, could not try the downloads from your link until today and the new drivers have done the trick, thank you very much Bob.
The return of some controls I've been missing for a while including the custom paper sizing is much appreciated.
I did look at the HP site when I first got Windows 7 but these updates weren't there then.I don't know why I didn't go back there?Oh well.
Thanks again.

Paul.

Answer
HP LJ 6P

Is seems the problem is with nearly all HP LJ drivers available through Windows Update.
Unfortunately, HP is not willing to publish new drivers, they only give a link to Windows Update.
I can confirm, that there is not option to add a custom paper size with the driver.
The old kernel mode driver from NT4.0, which had the ability of adding custom paper size, can not be installed into Win7.
I am decided to uninstall Windows 7 and get back to Windows XP, for this particular reason.

I'm confused by your post.

HP did in fact issue a new driver as noted above your post.
Microsoft's drivers for years have had issues so why do you write it's a HP issue when you didn't get it from HP.

Very odd.
