How do I keep Word from opening with the Task Pane open?

Nov 13, 2007 5:03AM PST

Every time I open word, the Task Pane is open. I hate it. How do I open Word without the stupid Task Pane open? Thanks,
Sam

Task pane...

For solutions to such questions, try the View menu... Uncheck "task pane"... It may be hidden under other items, e.g. tools...tool bar....panes....I think the Task Pane appears in Word XP and newer versions.

depends which version you use

in office 2003, simply go to options from the tools dropdown menu, and the default tab is view. in there, the first check box deals with task pane. if you simply uncheck that box, you won't have the task pane opening up every time you start up office.

I appreciate your suggestions, but it still opens on subsequent launching of Word 2003.

I wish I could go back to office 2000.

This is the only method that actually works for Word 2003 and beyond...
