How do I get thumbnails on my Mac?

Aug 4, 2007 6:32PM PDT

I'm new to this forum, so I'm not sure it's the right place I've started this thread. So please if I'm in the wrong place could anyone then direct me to the right place? Thank you.

Okay now to my question. I'm trying to build a website (using www.stirsite.com) and I need to be able to make thumbnails of my photos/images I'm using on the website. I'm new in building a website and I don't know much about computers either, so I really need some help or advice on this. Do any of you know what I should do? Where's the best download for this purpose? I have Mac OSX (it's a laptop macbook).

I really hope that there's someone out there who can give me some advice.

Thank you in advance!!

Thumbnails

Usually the application you are using to build a site has the capability of producing thumbnails of your main images.
The smaller thumbnails are used to ensure that the page loads quickly and clicking on the thumbnail causes the full sized picture to load.
This particular site, stirsite.com, does this for you. See the "learn more about" link on their website.

Why do you think that you need to create thumbnails of your images for the site?

If you are set on creating them yourself, you will need to take the original, make a copy and reduce the size of the copy until it was the size you needed.
Graphic Converter will do this for you. It's shareware and is available Here

Let us know how you get on

Another thing,

If you have a MacBook then you will already have the necessary software to produce a decent website.
It's called iWeb and if you have a do Mac account then things are even easier.

A bit off subject but can't you get thumbnails...

... from iPhoto as well? If you knew where to look in your iPhoto folder, then you will find every image you ever imported into iPhoto had a thumbnail automatically created. All one would have to do would be to copy the thumbnails to an external folder (emphasis on COPY). I wonder what size those thumbnails are? I will have to look.

Graphic Converter is the much better choice, but it just struck me that there was more than one way to skin this cat. Wink

BTW... the answer is 240 x 180 (what size thumbnails iPhoto uses). I assume that is in pixels.

I copied and pasted one from the iPhoto Library > Data > 2007 > etc. etc folder path onto my desktop with no problem.

as for what a hairless cat looks like...
