The con of rooting is there is no support except what folk will give you. I can't support such because it's unsupportable. And better than half the time the person asking DEMANDS support. Odd, I have never done this for a client so why the demand.
Try more research and consider that new Nexus 7 when it comes out. At home we have the KF HD 7 and it seems to do what it does pretty well. For a more Android experience you would not get the Kindle.

I have read a little on this topic and found it to be quite confusing. What are the pros and cons of "rooting"? Is it easier to "side load" only the specific apps I want that are not available in the kindle store? I have found a few apps that I wanted that are only on Google Play. I am not an expert and don't want to end up messing up the Kindle Fire HD 7" that I only bought because a co-worker was selling it for $50, brand new never opened.
Perhaps it would be easier to make my son trade me for his Nexus 7. I'm not sure if that would be the way to go, but all he uses it for is games and the Kindle is just fine for that.
Any suggestions or "how to" advice would be greatly appreciated.
