How do I get louder better sound

I just purchased my first mp3, a Zen V Plus and Shure E4C earbuds. It sounds ok but would like louder and clean hard hitting music like in the front row of a rock concert. Is there an amplifier I can add ? Or did I buy the wrong equiptment? or am I expecting to much.

It'll never be as good as a Hi-Fi, but decent headphones will really help get the most out of your mp3 player, the ones that come with most are rubbish.
