Question

How do i get a network unlock code?

Jul 27, 2017 6:48PM PDT

I tried talking to my service provider like it said to in tutorials, but they just blew me off and told me to call Samsung if i needed the unlock code, but I'm pretty sure Samsung doesn't give away codes.

I cant afford to buy one

and all the generator sites are scams/malware.

I'm at a loss and I'm worried i wasted my money.

- thank you

Clarification Request
who is your cellular carrier and phone model ??
Jul 30, 2017 3:29AM PDT

Most folks contact their carrier who determines if they are qualified to receive the unlock code provided by the carrier. Carriers shouldn't refer the customer to the manufacturer to unlock the phone.

Answer
Never heard of such beside scams.

There are folk that buy a locked phone and sell it then the buyer discovers no unlock until they pay off the contract with the carrier.

Samsung won't help because that would be helping the rip off artists.

You rarely talk to your new carrier. You have to talk to the carrier it's locked to get them to release it which they won't if it's still under contract.

Tell more.

I didnt have a contract with my last provider, I used a go phone card and its been 2 months since i used it so that shouldn't interfere.
My current provider is USMobile, but when I asked customor service for the code they were of no help and pointed me in the wrong direction.

does it have a SIM card in it?
Jul 27, 2017 8:05PM PDT

If so, then get one for it from US Mobile.

Go Phone.

Those are usually locked to ATT. That discussion is repeated over and over.

Tell which Go phone. Let's see how much for a replacement. Could be cheap.

My phone still has the AT&T logo when i start it up
and it only asks for a network unlock when i have the new sim card in.

Should I talk to customor service again
Jul 27, 2017 10:06PM PDT

and if so, should I be talking to AT&T or USMobile

Which one?
Jul 27, 2017 10:21PM PDT

The lock is by ATT. I am short changing you here as Go Phones are subsidized and you get to deal with ATT to unlock. They hold the keys.

A lot of folk get irate or blow up over this. I wish I had better news.

Unlocked ones run about 120ish bucks at https://glyde.com/buy/used-samsung-galaxy-s5
https://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/wireless/2407749011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_cps_1_2_last has other unlocked GSM models. You must know what your new carrier uses.

AT&T replied to my email

"We can't complete your request at this time because the device hasn't had active paid service for at least six months."

It's a typical run around issue.

You are repeating a trip through the forest like many. While I can explain it, many don't believe it till they repeat the process. I know some just flame on and out.

So it seems you need an AT&T service now to use that phone.
