I can't see your install plan but did you install Toshiba's TVAP for that laptop? It's not drivers. I can only guess why folk think all that we need are drivers today but we can discuss that if you need to.

okay i will try it, can you upload that test CD ?

Sorry no.

Linux Live CD/DVD/USB are all over the internet.

I don't want to upset you but it is easy to find them with google. I suggest Puppy Linux as it's small but may be confusing to some. Go with Ubuntu as it's big and not as new to some.

It is possible that Toshiba never issued XP drivers and with all these posts you may be like others that are doing the "driver hunt" and learning why a clean install feels so raw.

a little confusion
Sep 21, 2013 3:13AM PDT

lets get this straight, all i have to do is get the linux cd on the internet and installed it over my xp or what? sorr y to disappoint you but im a little bit confused

- Collapse -
It's simply than this.
Sep 21, 2013 5:54AM PDT

All over the internet are articles about Live CDs. If you don't want to use the internet I understand that but it's out there ready for you. For those that don't want to work at this, I suggest they use the maker's supplied OS restore CDs, or have a friend or shop fix their PC.

I guess I'm going to have to be blunt and upset you. Did you google or research anything about Live CDs?

still no sound on live cd
Sep 21, 2013 5:36PM PDT

thanks for your advice, i just tested my sounds using ubuntu like you said earlier. but at the test sounds section i didnt hear the sound output, so am i having a hardware problem?

If no OS makes sounds, it's a hardware issue.

And yes you will get someone to write it's a driver but let's let them tackle that!

TRUE!

The old missing SNDVOL32.exe seems to bite folk time after time. That and the message on google.com seem to find old solutions.

I'm taking it that didn't work for you so I suggest you check your install notes and see where you diverged from your plan.

hi bob thanks for the answer but the classic sndvol32.exe still didn't work for me, few days ago after i restarted my computer and guess what, my sounds are back !! and i "accidentally" clean my registry again using ccleaner and the next time i boot up my pc my sounds are gone again..... what should i do now ?

I'd use System Restore back to before you "accidentally" ran ccleaner to see if that helps. Did you? What happens?

That shows that you didn't install all drivers. Didn't you use the original Toshiba supplied restore media?
But I doubt it's related to your sound problem.

Also, how about Microsofts UAA-driver? One more reason to use the restore media in stead of a general XP disk and a random collection of drivers.

random
Sep 19, 2013 10:12PM PDT

yes im using random driver that compatible with my pc, did the installation order matter in xp? also i think i miss the UAA driver, can you help me find them?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111 is about this driver. Also, if you open it, it offers to run a fixit to diagnose your problems (and there can be many problems with sound!).

And yes, the installation sequence is important. That's why restore media are so useful. And why we never recommend to go back to XP if your laptop came with, say, Windows Vista or 7. Installing XP correctly is a daunting task.

I meant it is pretty hard without a plan.
Sep 20, 2013 1:27AM PDT

This is why you want restore media. Restore and use your PC!

still no sound
Sep 20, 2013 9:24PM PDT

i've tried all of yours suggestion above but nothing worked. first i tried to system restore before my sounds gone but it didn't worked, then i tried intalling UAA driver.. but nothing happened, last i tried to re-install xp with a plan that you suggest above, but still no sounds. even the microsoft "fix it" wont help

what should i do now? less than a week ago, im facing the same problem but i ignore it, and the other day my device automatically install sound driver and my sounds are back. but it wont worked right now

The EXAMPLE noted this.

"Note: It is strongly recomended to install ths driver before you install the audio driver. If you do not install this driver the audio will not work."

It's also noteworthy that installing this out of order can result in a mute Windows (no sound.) Fix? There are some discussions where folk delete all sound things in the control panel but it's not a sure fix. The sure fix is to get your install plan down on paper and refine it till it works.

Makes you wonder how folk get by at times.

Your choice.
Sep 21, 2013 2:57AM PDT

Here I carry a couple live CDs to do such a test. I don't have to install or dual boot that way.

In your case you are struggling so go with what you know.

i wonder if that 5 bucks external soundcard works

That's why I carry it with me
Sep 22, 2013 5:25AM PDT

Clients often want proof it will fix it. So I get the usual 150 for the house call and 20 bucks for a 5 buck stick.

I would be guessing if you feel it's worth the gamble or need the tech to visit and show you it working?

Sep 23, 2013 12:02AM PDT

is it my speaker or my soundcard? or maybe both?

- Collapse -
Well, that's a deep discussion
Sep 23, 2013 2:33AM PDT

It's an external sound card so the output would be to the externals. HOWEVER my office has some really fine technicians and we could rewire the laptop to provide a connection to this.

In some rare laptops you can even shoe horn the little circuit board inside. Example at link to follow.
