How do I find my camcorder on my computer?

Mar 19, 2005 2:12AM PST

Hello,

I am a low tech nursing student just trying to figure out how to download the video of my daughters lead performance in the school play so I can make copies on CD to send to family.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV 330 camera and the cable that connects it to a USB port on my computer. I have Power DVD software that came loaded on my eMachine and use WIndows XP Home Edition OS.

I have figured out how to get the AV-DV OUT turned on the camera, and have found the button on the DVD software that asks for the source. However, I can't find the camcorder even though it is plugged into the D drive USB slot. Wouldn't it be considered a portable media device? I see all the other drives when I look for it, and when I use the same D drive for my digital camera and my jump drive for school work, it shows up.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any advice you can giveHappy

Victoria

Which firewire?
Mar 20, 2005 4:01AM PST

From what I understand, I need to buy a little piece of hardware to put into the computer that will accept the stream of video? Is that what a firewire is? Is there any difference in firewires? Which would be best for this situation? I just don't understand why it didn't come loaded on the computer to begin with since it was advertised as media ready for DVD's and such, thus the DVD maker software that was in place. Why do they do that?!!

I can't answer such questions about your PC because you wrote nothing about it.

But the firewire card and cable is under 20 bucks at places like newegg.com and compgeeks.com example? -> http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=UW-1394PCI-A01-N&cat=CCD Even has some beginning DV capture and edit software for 12 bucks (plus shipping).

Also, I don't know who they are or their motivations.

You didn't mention that.
