How do I extract files from WinRar to a jump drive?

Aug 1, 2007 9:41PM PDT

Please excuse the dumb question. I need to extract files that I saved on my desktop in a WinRar file. I need to extract them and save them to a "jump drive". I am not sure if it is called a jump drive. It looks like a little key bob thingy. It plugs into the front of my pc thru a fire wire conection. When I use the WinRar it gives me the option to extract files to different locations (ie cd drive, dvd drive etc) but there is no option for this flash drive. Can anyone help? I have a HPm360 PC and run XP on it.
Sorry such a dumb question but I do not know how to get files onto this thingy. Any help would be appreciated.

Not a dumb question at all.

Is an ICON displayed down by the clock when the drive is plugged in? Are you sure it is fire wire and not USB? One can use Drag and drop or copy and paste to move the data to the drive providing it shows up in the My Computer window.

Open WinRar>Highlight the files you want>Select Wizard>Then Browse Button> Expand + until you see Removable Disk (on my machine it is I) Make new Folder>Then Finish

Split the problem in 3 parts.

1. Unrar to a (new) folder on the hard disk.
2. Copy the contents of that folder to the jump drive.
3. Delete the deleted files and/or new folder from the hard disk.

Which of the three is beyond your knowledge?

I did finally figure this out thankfully with everyones help. What I ended up do is going to my computer and when I inserted the USB jump drive it then showed up and showed me the drive letter. I then used the wizard as recommended and was able to send the files to the USB. I appreciate everyone's replies and help that you all have offered. This site has helped me out of many incidents I have encountered.
Thanks to All.
