Question

How do I delete unwanted contacts from WLM2011

Mar 18, 2015 2:25AM PDT

We are running win 8.1. I installed WLM2011 and imported contacts from my wife's Palm Desktop. The contacts list contains many unwanted entries, but WLM will not let me delete any of them: the "X" on the ribbon is grayed out, right-click delete doesn't work, nor does the "delete" key. We have deleted the contacts from Google Mail(we're using IMAP, uninstalled "People" and generally tried to find anywhere else the contacts file might exist other than in WLM. It is still in the Palm Desktop, but I don't think there's any link between that package and WLM. I have uninstalled/reinstalled WLM2011, renamed the "Contacts" folder (caused WLM not to function), and anything else I could think of. Suggestions?

As written at link to follow "You can't delete contacts that appear in your contacts list by virtue of your linking some social networking service like Facebook to your Windows Live account. These are your Facebook friends who would have to be removed from your list in Facebook itself. You can, however, remove the link to Facebook:"

I'm not there to see what your profile looks like.

The contacts in question are not Facebook (or any other social media) friends -- they're simply records that I imported from Palm Desktop. To restate from my original post, there is no red "X" on the ribbon, and neither right click delete nor the delete key have any effect.

I read that.

Since there is no link in your profile of any kind you are stuck with working with Microsoft. Frankly with the number of bugs I've seen in WLM I'm a bit surprised folk keep it around. There's always thunderbird.

I offered the link above to show where X does not work, etc. I get that. But Microsoft's code is theirs to fix next?

I didn't write it was Facebook. It could be a profile link to something issue but I can't see that from here.

My apologies -- I didn't scroll far enough down in the link you sent. I tried again and found the comment about unlinking from Google, which I did, and it worked! No more bad contacts.

Good to read.

As the famous person said "It's always something."

I'm not there to look at all the profile areas so I offer what I can. If that doesn't pan out we always have Thunderbird.

PS. Palm OS/Pilot programmer here. A mystery why no app never rivaled that thing for calendar and contacts.
