Question

How do I convert a certain codec?

Sep 9, 2011 8:08AM PDT

Hello! Thank you, ladies and gents, for your very valuable, precious time--.

I would like to say that there is a video codec called FMVC that the application, GSpot, does not recognize (it says, "Unknown." Please see two attached screenshots).
I would like to convert this FMVC codec to the MJPEG codec as my .AVI video file will not upload successfully to You Tube. That is, my .AVI file has the FMVC codec that I'd like to convert--i.e., the codec--to the MJPEG codec instead, per the following recommendation(s) from You Tube:

".AVI - Many cameras output this format - typically the video codec is MJPEG..." (courtesy of You Tube).

I am new to much of this, and I would assume I have made some errors in terminology, analysis etc. I am sorry if this is the case. (Please take no offense at my computer's file path to the screenshots. Purely a personal sense of "humor--." Thank you--.)
Thank you.

Sincerely,
Matt Bohart

But let's dismiss AVI as an encoding or codec. That's an CONTAINER.

This encoding looks like a SCREEN CAPTURE encoding by screenvirtuoso.

But that's not told in your post.

screenvirtuoso's codec appears to be at http://www.fox-magic.com/download.php

You don't have to reveal you or someone is using said encoder.

I don't believe I ever said that .AVI was a codec. Correct me if I am wrong, please. Thank you.

It's just something I want to be clear on.

BUT I didn't read if you went out for that codec or not. Or how you created these files.

Let me share titles I use.

Once you get the codec noted above, VIRTUAL DUB is an old favorite for conversions with great controls over almost every aspect of the conversion.

Also HANDBRAKE might be an easier tool for those that need something a little less hands on.
