How do i connect xbox 360 contoller to pc?

by ztblair / July 9, 2009 12:13 PM PDT

i am using my windows pc, and i just made this cnet account. I have no idea what i am doing, but i managed to post this (obviously). My mouse broke, and i heard it was possible to use a xbox remote. I decided to try; I downloaded the microsof xbox 360 accessories software, and that is it. I took my year-old xbox 360 wireless remote (is there a different one for computers) and turned it on with the software running. nothing happened, and it didnt connect. Do i have to buy a xbox controller usb adapter, or is there a way for me to simply use this contoller for my mouse? PLEASE HELP. i know one friend has this as his mouse, but i cant contact him to ask how.

by ztblair / July 9, 2009 12:19 PM PDT

just an update. i see microsoft sells wireless remotes, wired xbox remotes, and wired pc remotes for the xbox system. Is it possible to do this at all with an old controller? also, how do i play xbox on my computer? do i download something and then just put in the cd? And my last question is if xbox live is free on computers, or if they charge for that too?

The wireless ones
by Jimmy Greystone / July 9, 2009 1:46 PM PDT

The wireless ones require a special RF receiver before they will work with your computer. The wired ones you can connect up at pretty much any time, and download the driver for it. You can also connect wireless controllers via the Play and Charge cable, you just can't use them wirelessly without the special receiver.

I don't know if Microsoft sells the receiver separately or not. If not, you can probably find one for sale via Craigslist or Ebay.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
