How do I change the default area code in Outlook?

I have Windows 8.1 and the latest Outlook and I cannot get it to work like the Old version and automatically insert the (default) area code

I wonder if you mean some other outlook? There's also issues with say Outlook 2003 which is messed up until you get SP3 for Outlook.

As I have yet to use 2013 my bet is that it is as reported a change and my second bet is MSFT may not fix it. I'd love to be wrong.
