Answer
Just insert disk and restart laptop

Just insert disk and restart laptop. If it does not work just enter BIOS settings and make CD/DVD drive primary boot device. Then it should work.
That about warranty is pure lol (*): it is impossible to check what software you ran unless you tell them.

did not work

Inserting the disk and restarting the computer did not work. It still starts windows. This sucks royally.
my boot device priority looks like this
1 AHCI CD
2 AHCI HDD
3 USB KEY
4 USB CD
5 USB FDD
6 USB HDD
7 PCI BEV
BUT NO MATTER WHAT i DO, IT STARTS WINDOWS.
So I changed it to

1 AHCI CD
2 USB CD
3 AHCI HDD
4 USB KEY
5 USB FDD
6 USB HDD
7 PCI BEV

but no help. When I try to boot, it gives me the choice of 1, or 3 to boot from. Then it starts windows.

hmm

You sure you inserted disk into AHCI CD and not USB?
You sure disk is ok? (ex tried it on other machines?).

If both yes and still no luck then also try to boot from USB key. On new models it is possible.
It is even better because you will get read and write to it. Wink

Let me expand that void a little.

The warranty is not so much voided but you can't ask them for support or repair if the supplied OS is not installed.

However there is always an exception such as a machine that does not power up. That is something all the warranties and companies will cover which they would fix that, reload the OS and return it ready to use again,

All support when you do this is yours to find. Some are unsettled by this but that's the breaks.
