How Convert Analog to Digitial Video

Sep 5, 2005 4:22AM PDT

I have a Canon analog camcorder, the Sony TRV-17, a Belkin firewire card and software for Nero, Roxio and Sonic MyDVD. I am able to play the Hi8 video to the computer by connect the analog camcorder to the Sony DV camcorder and setting the video to pass through to the computer. I then go to any of the 3 software and can see the video playing. But as soon as I hit the capure button it only capture the first frame and then I guess it start trying to capture video from the Sony DV camcorder. How can I use the Sony as a passthru and which of these software would be do the trick? Or do I need to buy a different software. I have a lot of Hi8 videos and dont want to have to convert each one to DV first.

Specifics:
Canon ES970
Sony TRV17
Belkin 3 port firewire PCI-card
Nero Express 3
Roxio Easy Media Creator 7
Sonic MyDVD Deluxe 5

Thank you for your time,

Jack

Don't put a tape into the Sony machine.

The capture software will give a command to the Sony to start playing. If there's no tape, the pass-thru will work.

You will, of course, have to manually start the Hi8 machine's playback.

Just so we know.

Some software such as WMP would fail and send the command anyway even if the tape is not in place. With everone all over the map, and a post without version numbers of the software, who knows.
