How connect Bluray player to internet w/o router?

Dec 14, 2010 4:02AM PST

ISP- provided Motorola DCH6200, HDMI to HDMI on TOSHIBA 40xv648u HDTV. Added an LG Bluray disk player (BD550), HDMI to HDMI on HDTV. All works fine except I can't get to the internet. I can buy a router but somehow think there should be a way without one.

Any help appreciated.

The DCH6200 is not an internet device or modem.

It's just some HD receiver.

Tell the forum what internet access you have in this house.

DCH6200 is an cable connection box made by Motorola.

It's the way I connect my Toshiba HDTV, and is provided by an ISP named Jetbroadband. If I need to buy a router, it'll be wired to this cable box (if possible). All I want the internet for is a Netflix connection via the Bluray disk player.

Another cable connection from the same company is used for a iMac I3 via Arris modem in a different part of the house, but I'd like to avoid a wireless router if I can.

Then that's a feature

I don't see in the DCH6200. Let's give you the benefit of the doubt here. If this box can do it, your cable company will have to tell you how.

(sorry, hit the wrong key) "buy a router" and hangs up. I'm out in the boonies so there's no cable competition.

Bob, I appreciate your looking at my minor problem, but I still don't understand. I think what you're saying is buy a wireless router, attach it to your computer modem, and send the signal to the Bluray player. Correct?

Sorry.

I guess I was unclear. The DCH6200 does not appear to offer any internet access feature.

If there is a computer modem, you would have to tell about that. Many ISPs give out a router+modem combo but in this discussion all I have is DCH6200 to work with.

Ok, let me ask you.

Do you have internet? If yes, is it with Jetbroadband? It sound to me you only have cable and the cable modem is integrated within this receiver (a bit out of the norm). I see there is a ethernet connection but the manual doesn't say much about it though. My understanding with Netflix is that you do need broadband internet and some device to have it work.
