My 2 year old JVC GR-D90u just stopped working. I mean won't power up with either the battery or the adapter. I checked both and the battery and charger are putting out the voltage they're suppossed to.
Of course it is out of warranty. The repair shops I've checked suggest they might fix it for $300. Since I paid 600 new, that isn't an option.
So my question is this really common? One salesman(ha) told me well camcorders just 'die,' and that is why you should always buy the extended time warranty (which he would be "Pleased to offer me on any of the other fine products displayed in the store.")
I ain't made of money. My plain old analog cam corder lasted 10 years, and probably was fixable. I don't want to buy something that's expected lifetime is 2 years.
Finally, as someone interested in technology, why do these things "just die." I don't accept that. It likes saying they work by magic and that the great video voodoo god called my camera home.
