Resolved Question

How can I use my sony handycam on my vaio computer?

Dec 2, 2011 9:20AM PST

My vaio 2005 computer allowed me to view and edit video from my sony digital video camera using windows xp. After a bad virus, I had to install windows 7. I used roxio software to try and edit and record my video but the computer didn't recognize the camera. In trying to use windows media player, I was told that I needed a driver for the camera, but in searching the computer and the internet for one, none was found. After contacting microsoft, they couldn't find a driver. Sony had no free solution. Has anyone else been ably to solve this problem.

Cam hook up

As Bob stated a firewire link, hook up cable and proper input at computer is needed. That isn't all, you also need the software which generally comes with the camera, without that you are done. As a rule a USB hook up(with a camcorder) doesn't work. Again, the software is needed and must be compatible with the OS.

I had a virus in my computer whose OS was windows XP. I installed windows 7. There is a message that "sony MPEG Real Time encoder board is not compatible with Windows7. Is this the "TV" card? Should I contact sony or microsoft to see which card is compatable and replace it? Frankie. Thanks.

This was the first hit from Google searching for "sony MPEG Real Time encoder board". You might be able to find a more recent and more encouraging link.

One click away is an interesting warning:
WARNING: If the Microsoft® Windows® 7 Upgrade Advisor states that your computer is NOT COMPATIBLE, it is strongly recommended that you DO NOT install the Windows® 7® operating system.
