Question

How can I unlock my phone screen without losing data?

Hi,

I set a new password yesterday and, naturally, forgot it almost immediately. After forgetting it I received two calls which may or may not have been important.

After installing the Dr. Fone App I discovered it does not work with my Xperia Xa2.

The methods that will work wipe my data- including my calls log.

I cannot switch to a different account or create a new one because, after changing my password, I switched my phone off and, since I was the last user to log in, the alternative accounts are greyed out.

I cannot transfer data to an SD card or computer because my phone is locked.

I cannot boot the phone because, for whatever reason, Xperia Xa2 is not compatible with booting software.

I cannot control my phone via my computer because my phone must be unlocked in order for the software on my computer to recognize it.

I tried taking a flash picture of my phone screen (I think I heard somewhere that doing that helps.) The screen turned off, but the blocker remains.

I cannot expand the notification without getting into the phone.

From where I'm sitting, it appears as though I am stuck in a catch 22. I need to access my data, but to do that I must unlock my phone. In the process of unlocking my phone, I will lose the data I need to access.

Possibly with the calls log issue I can go through AT&T (I'd rather not, but desperate times call for desperate measures), but where the other data is concerned... I really don't know what to do. Where there's a will there's a way, but it seems I am truly stuck.

It's funny in the worst way possible because it's such a ridiculous absurd situation,

Hopefully somebody will know what to do. I honestly have no idea.

I'd cross post this in XDA Forums.

While I will chastise you about the lack of backups, XDA Forum (use google to find it) has other tools that could help.

It appears what happens with PCs and the lessons there didn't help folk when they got their new computer based phone.

Thank you for the response

I never backup anything on my PC either, unless it is directly linked to an account. Never got in the habit.

I always figured I could just call tech support, prove it was my phone, and they would be able to unlock it. Clearly I figured wrong, but there has to be a way to unlock the phone without losing data. Or a tech wizard who can figure this out. I mean, can it literally be impossible or require such advanced hacking that it is basically unsolvable?

It's by design.

Folk have been asking for better security so it's by design to be hard to unlock. It's not broken at all and XDA Forum would be my next stop as that's where the wizards and dragons are.

I guess I'll look into that

It's brilliant and, if my phone were ever stolen, I would be immensely grateful that this feature was in place. However, the fact that you cannot unlock it even after providing information is frustrating. There are some things only the owner would know.

I'll try XDA forums. Just the name sounds intelligent.
