Question

How can I stop AVG from using so many of my PC's resources?

Jan 29, 2012 5:47AM PST

Greetings all!
First post here. I am getting more and more worried. AVG seems to be responsible for a vast amount of resource grabbing. I took a screenshot of what's going on, and posted it to my FB account. Here is the link to that pic:

As you can see, AVG and its attendant programs are using an insane number of I/O reads, writes, and I really would like them to stop. A friend suggested uninstalling AVG 9 and installing 8.5. Oh, I am using Windows 7, 64bit, have a 3.4Ghz processor with 8 gb of RAM. I don't know how much of that is essential, but I figure it's better to have too much detail here than too little.
Thank you very much for any and all help. I really appreciate it, as I am pretty desperate. Ciao!

Unfortunately, my PC runs almost 24 hours a day. I work on it from 0500 to 1500, and then use it for leisure -- games (single player on Steam usually), videos I have installed on my PC, Netflix, and Facebook. I also use Google a LOT looking thing up constantly. I know, I know, I am evil for making my poor PC slave away. Happy But any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Saknussem,

High amount of I/O operations is expected from security software as all accessed files are being checked by AVG Resident Shield. Also all process actions are being monitored by AVG Identity Protection.

Please also note that Ad-Aware service may be interfering with AVG Resident parts.
Using more than one security software with active resident part is not recommended and can cause conflicts and unpredictable computer behavior.
More information is available in this thread at AVG Forums.

Do you experience any specific slowdown on your computer?

Thank you

I've lost count of where I find those other apps create a conflict and slow it down. Need another example?
