Question

How can I send all the photos on my old iPhone 4s to the iCl

Jul 13, 2015 4:31PM PDT

I didn't realize that iCloud doesn't store all the photos one sends forever. When I got my new iPhone 6, AT&T transferred everything from the Cloud. Now, I have hundreds of photos on my old iPhone that I want to get to iCloud. I have 18G of storage available. On the old iPhone, they are divided into groups by date and location. Do I just hook up the old phone to the computer? Can't quite figure this out. Also, can I set up iCloud to keep all the photos until I want to delete them.

Thanks for help.

First thing you need to do is secure the pictures

that are on the phone and nowhere else.
Connect your iPhone to the computer and transfer those pictures from the iPhone to the computer.
Now make a DVD copy of them along with your regular backup.

Now that they are safe, you can look to moving them to the iCloud.

It is my understanding that iCloud will store everything you send to it, forever, or at least until you stop paying the bill. You may want to check again that the hundreds of photos that are on the iPhone are not already up there.

A little confused

iCloud could keeps your entire photos or videos in sync between your iPhone and your mac if they are in the same account. iCloud Photo Library favor you free up storage space on your iPhone or iPad by streaming photos and videos instead of physically downloading them.

Therefore I am confused that photos on your old iphone does not exist on your iCloud, it should be synced automitically.

Iphone photos on iCloud
Jul 14, 2015 8:10AM PDT

Okay, what happened is that I sent tons of photos to the iCloud some years ago. They were taking too much room on my little phone. I assumed they would stay on the Cloud, but now it seems that they stay only for about 30 days unless you do something. I don't know what that something is. So, when AT&T synced my phones from the Cloud, it only had the newer ones. But, on my old phone there seems to be all that I sent there for several years.
Would it be best to put them on a flash drive and then sent them to iTunes?
I would like to get them there so I could weed out some. Mostly there are cat pictures. After all, you can't take just one picture of a cute cat pose!!

I just need to know what settings I need for them to stay in the Cloud and how to get them there.

Thanks, peggy

So why do I need 20 Gs on the iCloud?
Jul 14, 2015 9:02AM PDT

This will probably sound dumb, but I assumed the reason one had a Cloud was to store things things that didn't fit on the iPhone, iPad, etc. So, if it only holds photos for 30 days, I don't need to pay the extra for 20Gs, right? Is there any Cloud that lets you store things long term?

I learn something new every day!

My own cloud.

Sorry folk but I know of no cloud storage that is "long term storage." As to why 20 Gs I hope this is GigaBytes and not thousand dollar bills.

For my own cloud it's some 500GB HDD on my router. Too involved to discuss how it's done but many routers can do this.

CNET has a deal with Pogo which I used for short time over a year ago. I have not tried them since then. http://www.cnet.com/news/free-cloud-storage-for-life/

Again, it's in the cloud and not long term storage.

Oops!!

Yeah, I did mean GBs. I think the solution to my problem is to edit my cat pictures. It's ridiculous how many I have.

Thanks for teaching me something I didn't know. You've often been able to do that.

Best, peggy

Reinforcement the old iPhone manually with cloud by opening "Settings, tap "iCloud", explore for base and tap on "Storage & Backup", then tap "Backup Now". Boot the iPhone and stroll through the simple setup, pick either "Restore from iCloud Backup". Hold up until the new iPhone restores from your old iPhone Backup, this can take a while, relying upon the size of your backup, the amount of stuff you have on the iPhones, and the speed of your web association. At the point when completed, your new iPhone will have everything from the old iPhone and you're prepared to go!
