Question

How can I remove ib.adnxs.com ?

Dec 25, 2014 12:51PM PST

This pops up when I am on AOL, and it keeps opening screens with ads until there are maybe 20 or 30. It overlaps my email so I can't finish writing a message.

I googled it, found out it is some type of malware or virus, and I found some sites that sell removal software for $39.95.

Do I need to buy their software or can I do it myself? How can I be sure I remove all of it? I read that it often hides parts of it under other names or in other locations.

Thanks,
Ellie

You didn't mention computer type, operating system, ISP and if you are running any type of security software in the system, sometimes this info can help. For starters, what many do is to download the free version of Malwarebytes, once downloaded to the system run a MWB scan in Safe Mode with Networking..to see if it comes up with any bugs and attempt removal. In your case, IF you are not able to do the download with your browser because of the issues you are having, get a flash drive, go to a clean computer, download MWB to the FD, input the FD to the sick system and do the scan from the FD, again, in Safe Mode with Networking and see what results you get.

Eureka! You did it!

Hi, pgc3!

You did it! I followed your instructions about Malwarebytes and it came up with 92 warnings. I quarantined all (delete was not an option) and so far, I've not had any more problems with the "ib" screens opening up when I am on AOL.

I was really impressed with Malwarebytes; it loaded fast and scanned my entire PC in about 15 minutes. It was easy to install (I admit I am a newbie) and run and I'm delighted to now have it on my PC. Maybe I will go back and buy the "paid" version of it, if I have a little $$$ left over after paying my December bills.

Pgc3, you rock! Many thanks!

Ellie

Glad to hear that worked...I have the paid version of MWB and it works quite well. You never mentioned what you have for security software in the system, if you don't have any I'd strongly advise getting something, if nothing else, MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials, which is a free download, there are tons of others you may want to do some research. Another thing that I might mention, I've see some issues with using AOL as a homepage, especially with insufficient A/V coverage. At any rate, glad you got it going..good luck!!

If this is a browser virus and your anti-virus can not help you, you can remove it manually. I got some kind of unwanted sites like it, and I remove it myself.

anyway, you have successfully removed it.
