Question

How can I hardwire my desktop to my internet?

Nov 29, 2015 10:14AM PST

I live in an upstairs apt. My landlord lives below. TWC ISP has a coax cable that goes from outside and into my bedroom but then the coax goes down through the floor and into the modem in my landlords apartment. I can't run an ethernet cable down to the modem so could I do anything with a splitter and have another coax route to a router or something? or is the only way through the single TWC provided modem downstairs? Wireless on my desktop via wireless adapter just isn't cutting it for online gaming.

Ok thank you. I currently use a Netgear N600 and I get great ping in games with it but there is a lot of lag issues

So the N600 is in some client mode?

You weren't clear about that. That is, while it's possible I would be guessing on the setup. Tell more.

I'm not sure what you're wondering

I have the n600 adapter plugged into my desktop and internet works great for everything. It just has ping spikes while gaming. I had this issue a long time ago at my old apartment and the only actual fix that worked for me was hardwire to the modem.

So this N600?
