Question

How can I get the fastest internet connection possible?

Mar 28, 2015 11:31PM PDT

I am a pc gamer who lives in a family of 4. Our house is secluded and quite old (thick walls/roof, etc...). I found that wifi connection to my room was fairly poor so I got a powerline adaptor. This made a small difference, but when anyone other than me uses the internet my ping still jumps from 80-100 to over 1000, making multiplayer games impossible.

I have heard that in some cases wifi adaptors can be faster than powerline adaptors, and my powerline adaptor is not the strongest anyway, but I don't know if buying one will solve my internet issues.

Can I buy/do anything to speed up my internet connection, or will I just have to put up with it?

That's wired (Ehternet cable) directly from the router to your laptop or desktop, not wireless and not via a powerline adapter.

Moreover, If your family has ADSL and you can pay for your own cable connection (or the other way around) that would be faster also, since you've got the full bandwidth all for yourself.

You can assigned higher priority for your computer and assign lower priority for the other devices at your home using QoS feature of your router, so that you can get good speed even when the other devices are accessing Internet.
