Question

How can I get sound from my PS3 to my DVI television?

Jul 4, 2011 6:43AM PDT

I have an LG-rz 32lz55 tv and i have PS3, i have recently purchased a DVI to HDMI converter and the picture quality is great but there is no sound whatsoever. I have tried changing the audio output settings to the red and white cables but there is still nothing. Is there a way i can get sound without buying any external cables? If so, help would be much appreciated, if not it still would be.

Many thanks in advance!

Answer
That is because

That is because DVI is a video only format. HDMI is video and audio, but the DVI adapter is stripping out the audio.

You can't

You can't. DVI does not do audio, the end. You will either need to go with an all HDMI setup or stick some kind of device, like a home theater receiver, between your computer and TV.

So unless you are willing to spend the time, energy, and money to learn home theater basics, and just using HDMI to your TV isn't an option, I'd just quit now. There is no magic solution out there. You either use a cable format that does video AND audio or you get some intermediary device which can reroute signals. Those are your choices.
