How can I get rid of AOL nag messages in Netscape 7.x???

May 27, 2005 6:52AM PDT

It's driving my wife nuts. She's using Netscape 7.x (on a Dell laptop running Windows XP Home with SP2). When she starts Netscape Mail, she gets a popup window -- apparently from Netscape -- telling her she should Click Here to sign up with AOL.

How can we make this go away?

Uninstall Netscape. . .

And install Mozilla. Mozilla has email like Netscape but without all the ads.

My wife using Netscape mail and noting like this happens. Had to put in her user name once with password and tell it to "remember".

Getting rid of AOL nag messages in Netscape

Thanks to you both. I think both approaches will work; I'll let my wife decide which to use (but I've been encouraging her to go to Mozilla for salvation anyway).

The reason no one likes changes

Because computers have become a personal extension of us. Our computers are a part of us, our personalities and most private selves, are tied up in these desktops.
When someone suggests, I change from one utility or browser, to another; they are really asking me to, Change my character. When someone wants to fix my computer for me, they are really asking me; if it is okay, to peel back my skull and squeeze around on my brain.
We all tend to get comfortable with what we know and use, no matter if it is easiest way or not; it is our way. This comment comes from one hard-headed user, though. Just ask the mods here. lol!

I have e-mail accounts on yahoo, netscape and msn, but I use firefox to get at them all. I only use IE for the Windows updates. It works well, I haven't had a virus or trojan or any other nasties in so long i was thinking of getting rid of my anti-virus stuff. Just kidding........

YES! If you wish it, try it.

I found a few things out, by using anti-virus utilities.
One Hand: when you have one installed, It only finds things that anti-spyware utility can find and uses TOOOOOOO much resources, is a constant pain to shut off/turn on, to update, to run scan. Only virus I ever got I got from stupidity or purposefully. Mainly useless at removing the virus.

Second Hand: While NOT having anti-virus running for three years now; I have never had a virus, My system is lightning quick. Anti-spy utilities are less taxing on resources and never corrupt an install when accidentally leave it running during.
