Question

How can i get i firewire port on my laptop with a JVC MINIDV

Jul 21, 2011 5:46AM PDT

Ok i have been looking at this problem for almost a year now. I have a JVC GR-D77OU MINI-DV camcorder and Windows 7 2010 Gateway NV53a laptop.I need to transfer video from my camcorder to my laptop but my laptop has no firewire port.So her are my questions:
1.What do i need to have a fire-wire port on my laptop?I have been told "You need a PCI card,oh that wont work you need a PCIMA card, oh that wont work either, oh you need a fire-wire bus card, oh that wont work either" i guess because of my laptop cant use any of those?
2.Can i use one of those options ^^^ because it seems that know one knows?
3. This is my last option, is it possible if i can get an external express card and a fire wire card bus? because i heard external express card don't work with fire wire? I would also like links please????????????

No one has shown anyone here this working as a firewire to USB converter/adapter. (that's noted in the full discussion I linked to.)

No HD, and the same old problems of analog capture.

If price is the goal and not quality then that's what you can use.

Most folk are very upset about the quality of this. It was OK ten years ago but I find folk today to not understand why it's so bad. Hint? It was that bad then and it is still that bad today.

If you've been at this long.

That device is a digital transfer and can handle HD content as well. You sidestep all the issues with analog video capture which I find today's new to video folk to always ask why it's so bad. The answer is that it's never been better and they are confused. What more can be said about NTSC analog video and capture of that?

As to getting firewire installed on that gateway. I fear the cost is more than anyone would suspect. It would take an engineering team to craft some device and then install it. Your question is a good one but how to answer it without upsetting you? Maybe we should just write "No."?

We rip it to the PC with Handbrake. It's an oxymoron to write "DVD Editor." A proper Video DVD is a closed session (finalized) or on read only media.

Since it's readable we can copy it out, edit the copy and then create what we want.

Since you always have the unaltered source you can edit fearlessly!
