According to what you stated, Toshiba or any maker for that matter doesn't provide actual fix it instructions when applied to h/w for typical users. While they may provide details as to what and where this or that is, they still don't offer real break-down info. Also, since this is a laptop it makes it all the harder. If anything is broken and depending on the item question, finding parts will be "iffy". Further, it may require a mtrbd. which available is still a daunting task to even swap on some models, provided you removed properly the outer covers, etc.. So, I hope your friend is capable and apt for the task at hand. The good news, Toshiba info seems to have alot of info via google using YouTube videos and etc., explaining "how to" across various laptops from users. Google for one and get a feel for what maybe in store. If you're lucky an actual link to "repair manual/factory manual" is provided but don't count on it. Check the laptop forum under laptop repairs here on CNET for the Toshiba help sticky.
