how can i change my WIFI hotspot name on my laptop?

hi,

this has been going on for months... i dont usually post on these types of forums, cuz i usually find the answers before posting..
anyhow, i cant find the answer to this.
i know it sounds simple... just change my computer name...
but that doesnt do the trick.

basically i am trying to change the wifi name that the laptop sends out.
it is currently my name, and i wish to change that.

i have gone into system prefs and changed the computer name to JOE.
but when i turn on INTERNET SHARING... my phone sees the wifi as my JOE SCHMOE'S MACBOOK PRO.
even when i click on the wifi sharing icon on the right, top menu bar, it says JOE SCHMOE'S MACBOOK PRO with a check mark by it.

can someone please help me?

Check the Sharing section of System Preferences on JOE. Note the text box at the top. Anything look familiar?

hi,

yes, i checked the sharing section of system preferences... and it says JOE as the computer name.
but the wifi still says JOE SCHMOE'S MACBOOK PRO.

it may be the same in other versions of OS X .

System Preferences, Sharing.

"Share your connect from: Etherenet"
"To computers using: Wi-Fi"

Wi-Fi Options (directly under the choices for sharing)

There you will see options for Network name, channel and Security

Change the name there

i was almost positive i changed the name in that section... but i guess i didnt!
