How can I change channels on sat receiver w Samsung remote

Mar 21, 2009 12:29PM PDT

I have a connected a 6141 ExpressVu satellite reciever to my Samsung LN46A750 TV with HDMI 1.

I can use the satellite remote to change channels but I cannot use the Samsung remote. I cannot program the ExpressVu remote to recognize the Samsung TV so I am left trying to program the TV remote.
On the TV under Channel menu I have set
Antenna: Cable
I have tried the auto program using STD, HRC, and IRC. The TV Does not recognize any channels. I have tried changing the Antenna to Air and still no luck.
I have also tried HDMI port 3 and 1 on the TV. I would really like to simplify this to a single remote. Right now I only use the Samsung remote to choose the HDMI and the volume and other remotes for additional functions.
The TV does not recogize the TV under HDMI-CEC (Anynet+).
Any suggestions please?

The only product(s)you can control are Samsung with the Anynet or Infolink (one of the two) that's it. You should be able to find codes on the net or through your cable/satellite provider to make their remote work on your tv.

gvwbus,

The Samsung remotes typically do not act as "universal remotes". The ones that do have a very limited feature set as far as which products they will support. Most cable/sat companies actually prefer that you use their remote and make their universal remotes... well... MORE universal than the television manufacturers.

When you're going into the channel menu, what you're doing is having the television search for local programming by using the ATSC, NTSC or QAM tuner; how is your cable box hooked up to the television?

HDMI ports can't do a signal search for channels, and via HDMI, will accept whatever signal is coming through it. So that may be what is confusing: The HDMI will not search for signals - only the co-ax tuner will search for channels. The HDMI will transfer the signal that the box is sending.

The box is likely not Anynet+ ready, as Anynet is Samsung's flavor of HDMI-CEC.

You might consider a universal remote that will do both the cable box and the television - or see if the cable/sat provider can provide you with a box that is updated to control 2008 television remote codes.

Thank you for your response.
The ExperssVU 6141 was just released and does not ship with the correct code so hopefully they will build it into a software update. For now I will use a harmony remote.
