You couldn't restore XP from a windows 2000 or 98 disc, so why did you think W8 would restore W10? As for booting from the W10 USB or DVD, you need to use the "F" key, often F12, to pick the W10 bootable device, or it will keep trying to boot from the hard drive. If you are able, then I'd save all my personal data elsewhere immediately after doing that, to keep from somehow losing it before attempting any more repairs.
I am using a Toshiba satellite c55-a computer and I am running on a 64 bit. My computer is Windows 10. However I originally had Windows 8 but then I did the free upgrade. Anyway my profile in regedit got deleted which deleted many files that Windows needs to run. I have a Windows 8.1 recovery drive which I have tried to use the refresh option on my computer setting but it does not work. I have done some research into this and that it is because when you upgrade from Windows 8 to 10 your computer does not properly store the install.wim file. I have tried putting the file where it needs to be but my cmd in recovery environment does not recognize the reagentc command which as far as I know is the only way to properly place the install.wim. I have recently been told that if I create a bootable Windows 10 flash drive that I can run repair and it will fix my registry problem. So I used rufus to create a bootable Windows 10 usb and the computer recognizes the usb but it will not boot it. Please help.
