how can i arrange my photos in the order i want

I have about 14,000 photos that i just got digitalized.but i would like to put them in a certain order within the folder. I try drag and drop but they always go back. i just want to have the pictures in the order i would like.

You can sort alphabetically or on creation date of the file or on any attribute. That means that Windows Explorer isn't the right tool for what you want. Changing the filenames so the name begins with "00001_" through "013999_" is cumbersome, albeit effective.

Sort of a work-around would be to create subfolders.

Such arrangements short of naming and sorting by that or other attributes are now available is Apps like Google Picassa and other free apps.

The OS has lost this since folk didn't like how it worked before (no way to copy the arrangements to other computers for example.)
