It's not your Windows. It's Microsoft's Windows. They own it. You have to activate your license to run it on your PC.

Microsoft have introduced 2 types of O/s, Retail & OEM. OEM was given to All well known system manufactures and Retail was sold by Microsoft online store or by calling Microsoft customer service or from local store for Example Wall-Mart, Costco, etc....Microsoft have created there own KB article to convert OEM version to Retail and from Retail to OEM. If your copy of Windows doesn't get activated I would request to call Microsoft and request them to get activated.
