I have a document made with Windows 7 and would like to edit it on my Mac computer. Is it possible to use the same document on either computer?/

I put the document in my Dropbox folder. Besides that I always kept a backup copy so yes it can be done pretty easily.

why can't I

I am just switching over to a Mac computer after working with word for over 20+++ years. I am writing a book and have copies on memory sticks. When I plug the stick into the USB outlet, nothing comes up. I will try to put it in my Drop Box. Wish me luck.
