Housecall Online question

Mar 14, 2004 3:33AM PST

Doing a Housecall scan on my second computer, it was found infected with houndreds of Trojan parasites in the C:\Restore... directory. When clicked Delete, it refused access to this file as being currently in use. How can I put off use this file and delete the parasites?
Thanks

Since Restore is on by default, you'll have to turn it off so things can operate fully, [Q299904]. Don't forget to turn it back on.

Each time a restore point is created the infected files are duplicated. To 'clean' the Restore folder, you will have to disable System Rstore and reboot. The Restore folder will be automatically removed. Do the housecall scan again to remove virus , worms. horses, etc. Then enable system Restore. A new, clean Restore folder will be created.

Restart in safe mode with the networking option. You do this by pressing F8 at startup (before you reach your windows xp boot screen). This should allow you to fix the problem. Also, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and check running processes for anything that seems out of place. Choosing Start>Run>Msconfig will give you a dialog that lets you disable programs at start up as well. I reccomend turning off Messenger under the services tab.
