Hosting problem

Jan 8, 2008 5:58AM PST

Hello,

I purchased a domain through GoDaddy. I have attempted to move it to Bravenet to use their hosting services. I have unlocked the domain, it has been over 60 days etc... but when I use the transfer option here at Bravenet, I always get an error message.

--------
We are sorry but your domain could not be transferred at this time. We suggest that you contact your current registrar or the domain owner for more information.

Reasons may include: your domain is on hold, locked by another registrar, missing its secret code, or was registered in the past sixty days.
---------

I have changed the domain nameservers at Godaddy to the ones Bravenet provided. I am new at having my own domain and need assistance. Thank you![8-)]

Once you set the DNS

everything should work fine (you have to "add" the domain at bravent if they are going to be your host). You are not required to unlock your domain for this. First you should decide whether you want your domain at godaddy or bravenet. Also, you could use godaddy's free hosting and still use all the "widgets" bravent has to offer. The only downfall would be the GoDaddy ad up top, but Im sure bravenet has their equivalent advertising for a free service.

How?
Jan 10, 2008 7:53AM PST

I have added the domain at Bravenet, but when I go to transfer it the error always comes up.

I was not aware that GoDaddy offered free hosting. I looked on the site, but could not find it. How do I access this?

The ad would be fine, as my site is just something small I plan to do.

Thanks!

DNS

Sorry, I missed the first part about DNS. How do I change that at Bravenet? Is that the nameservers address I have to change? I have changed those at GoDaddy that Bravenet provided.

OK

You only have to set the nameservers on Godaddy. Then when you login to Bravent, click on DOMAINS. You can transfer or add external. I think you would be better off with external version. So click "Add external domain" enter your domain http://www.mydomain.com and set the nameservers that it lists right there on the page. Could be antyhing from ns1.bravehost.com to ns12.bravehost.com. Once you did that, it may take a few hours to update.

If you've done that, we can go to the next step.

PS: To use Godaddy's hosting you have to use one of your credits, which you received when registering your current domain. There should be a hosting option somewhere along the menu, and once you click that, you can click to use a credit for free hosting.

Check
Jan 11, 2008 2:13AM PST

I actually have all of this completed.

I have the domain set up on Bravenet through External Domains.

Under Manage DNS - everything has the .Bravenet extensions. I take it since it's hosted at Bravenet, this is right. I have changed the nameservers at GoDaddy to the ones Bravenet provided.

All of this is a check. Being new this is where I got lost.

I was thinking you had to transfer after this. So please advise lol Wink

Regarding GoDaddy's Hosting.. I think I remember seeing the credit option. I may try that at some time, but we will continue on at Bravenet for now. Just curious, what else can you use the credit at GoDaddy with? Thanks!

You don't have to transfer now

If you did all that, you should be able to visit your domain and it displays a bravent page-- does it?

Godaddy has all kinds of features... email, hosting, etc. Just take a look around because they are always rolling out with new stuff.
