hosting and domain purchase-need help!

Feb 13, 2007 4:56AM PST

Hey, i thinking of getting my own domain and paying for a web host. It would be something temporarily, because right now I'm studing web site develpment and the stuff that i will upload wont be for work. So i will need to get a diferent domain later on.

So i went to http://domaindirect.com but I dont really understand how it works, I have to pay like 15 bucks a month to keep my domain and then go to another company (web hosting) and pay them to upload my stuff to their server???

thanks a lot, Marcelo.

Why bother with the 9 buck holding fee if you are going to go live?

Seems a waste.

Here...

* GoDaddy.com / $9 per year / Domain
* TotalChoiceHosting.com / $4 per month or $44 per year / Webhosting

In my experience, those are the two best companies to get the above listed.

If you have any questions let me know.

web hosting and free domain
Feb 14, 2007 4:21AM PST

Most of the web hosts listed on http://www.hostingplanrebates.com include a free domain. Also sign up with any of the hosts listed through the site and you'll get a $40 rebate. I'd recommend Host Monster, StartLogic, or An Hosting.

a couple of things i dont understand, first of all how do i qualify for a $40 rebate if i will pay $ 4-5 a month? anyway, but my iportant question is this, how do i manage my domains, i mean what if i want to change my hosting company, how does the domain thing work?, besides if I get their free domain for life can i use it with another company?

thanks Marcelo.

If you follow the instructions on the site you qualify.

You just qualify for the rebate... If you want to change your hosting company you can transfer your domain and all of your files to a new hosting company. The new hosting company would help you do all of it. Your not all alone when you have a web hosting plan. The technical and customer support guys will help you out with any questions you have along the way. It's really not that scary of a thing. As far as your question about getting a free domain with a hosting company and then deciding to move it to a new host, the worst case is that you have to pay for your domain which makes sense, because why should they give you a free domain if you aren't using their hosting service. I hope this info helps you out.

Good Luck,

Santos
