Resolved Question

Hostgator website hosting problem

Aug 6, 2013 5:50AM PDT

I was with Godaddy.com for several years with no problems. I hired a webperson to develop a Wordpress site for me. She had problems with Godaddy, so I moved to Hostgator at her request. She wanted me to let her host the site, but I declined.

Hostgator has moved to Utah from Texas and migrated my site to new a server (move to Utah means new IP address). Although they said they notified me twice previously, they did not do so until after the move.

Now, I'm having problems with a slow response time. My clients are having trouble logging in. All in all, the site is not responding like it should. Hostgator says it's just fine and responding well. My webperson is offering to host me again, and blaming my ISP for the lag. (I just checked my speed and it's fine.) She's also offering to move me to Godaddy.com, but, "my friends tell me they are having problems, too".

Essentially, hosting is a really small part of my budget, so I really only need a reliable hosting company. However, I don't want to keep moving my site as most all my new clients come from my 1st page google and yahoo listings and I don't want to keep changing the IP address.

I've been meaning to replace my web person for a while, as her work is sloppy and I don't trust her advice. I don't want to move again and again and again, though.

Is it possible that hostgator has gotten that bad? (could she be sabotaging the site?) Is Godaddy not doing a good job either?

Uptime is the major issue in Hosting industry. Everyone does say that they provide 99.9% uptime but very few follows it. I was also facing similar problems with my ISP. But now found a stable and reliable hosting service provider in form of webhost.uk.net. Its been more then two years I haven't faced any serious issues of downtime. I also liked their support services as they are always providing me with better suggestions and technical support.

Godaddy is no good in technical support terms they are good for domain registration service only. You can take help of Webhostingtalk forum to know more about reliable and stable hosting provider.
Couple of recommended host and which I personally have expirence with are :

Rshosting.com or Webhost.uk.net is also a good option got a reseller hosting package from last 5 years no issues with them.

Rackspace is a also good option. Best is if you are avoiding Gator just make sure you dont purchase for other EIG group company like bluehost etc they got nearly 50 companies.. you can find details of EIG on wikipedia to know more.

Hostgator is a provider with a worldwide and impeccable reputation among residents of more than 200 countries. The prices aren't the cheapest, but the range of provided services is of high quality. If you don't like the quality of hosting, you may request a refund within the first 45 days of sign-up.The work and quality of the technical support is controlled by the owner of the company.

Asa for Godaddy, they are not so good at proving hosting services and they are more a domain registrar than a hosting provider.

I find that questionable

My second year with hostgator has not gone well. My site is slow - very slow since they moved me from Houston to Utah. I can't let your comment, bobanz67 go without comment. The price also doubled without them telling me as the move was done without telling me. I certainly can't say that they provide high quality service.
