Horrible Samsung TV Support & Product

Jun 22, 2018 2:32PM PDT

I'm so angry after spending over an hour and a half dealing with Samsung support and then samsung parts. This is a company based on ripping older customers off. I have a 2013 55 inch Smart TV which is BS for its' pretending to be smart.
Shortly after purchasing it in 2013, Samsung told me I had to upgrade my software with the evolution kit. Of course that cost.
The upgrades were then supposed to be done automatically through the internet and that the process is ongoing. It never was and I was told later by Samsung support that the upgrades really don't always work that way. None of the upgrades that my TV was suppose to get, were never done. Samsung said they'd have to send me a thumb drive with the update. Whatever.
As many customers with Samsung TVs know, you get periodic notices that this service or that App is no longer supported. Whatever.
However, after this last experience, I will never buy another Samsung product again.
A few weeks ago, my television started turning off after a few minutes. The screen would go black, 20-30 seconds later, the screen would come back on with the Samsung Smart TV logo. The logo would last about a second, then turn off again. Sometimes this would go on for a while without resolve, sometimes the picture would eventually stay on. I would have to reboot in order to watch TV for more than a few minutes without interruption. After a diagnosis by technical support a week ago, I was told my either my hdmi cable was bad or my new directv genie generation 1 box was defective and that their TV was operating fine. All the other tvs connected to the DirecTV system work fine. I purchased and replaced the cable but still had the problem. I then scheduled a service appointment with DirecTV who while standing in front of the TV tried explaining why it couldn't be a DirecTV issue if no other TVs were affected. The technician ran a diagnostic and the box tested out fine.
When the technician left, I called Samsung back as I got a message that the "Evolution Kit" "still has data on it from another TV. If you start the installation, all stored data will be reset." This was odd. The Samsung customer support technician was useless. He couldn't answer what data or what other TV would be an issue. He even suggested I may have been given a refurbished Evolution Kit back in 2013. Five years later and I just now get that message? Really?
As soon as this message came up, my Samsung remote stopped working as well. I was told I had to buy another remote for over 130 bucks in order to get the message off my screen and update the TV.
I was also told the update will eliminate features of my TV. I quote the Samsung technician, "its a software thingy." Forgetting that the Smart Hub is a piece of crap anyway, the technician was basically saying, when Samsung updates its' software, older models won't function as well. What a piece of crap. Samsung has definitely lost me as a future customer.

Sorry for the difficulties, but you should have done more due diligence before purchase.

Never ask me about these Smart TVs.

I continue to disable the maker's smart parts and plug in a Roku, Fire or PC and it's far smarter than the maker offerings.

And hook to a computer. I always have a few spare old desktops around for that.
