Hooking up my notebook to LCD tv

Sep 14, 2006 5:07AM PDT

For the last year I had my laptop connected to my LCD tv via a VGA cable. In my new room arrangement my computer is further away from my Tv so I went and bought 2 10' VGA extensions, Dynex brand. It works, however, the picture is not as clear. You can almost see a duplicate image behind the main one. Does anyone know if this is caused by the extreme length the signal has to travel or because of the extensions or perhaps the extensions are just plain faulty. Any insight would be much appreciated.

VGA Cabling

The length of the cable does affect the image. 20 feet should not be too bad. It would be better to have one 20 foot cable rather than connecting the 2 10 footers. A computer interface unit would correct your problem but it is expensive. It would increase the signal strength and correct for the length of cable.

The cable quality is also a big factor

In addition to eliminating extra connections in the chain, the quality of the cable itself can make a big difference. Make sure your cables are rated for SVGA resolution. Many VGA extensions are skinny little things that might work OK for 640x480, but when you go to higher resolution you get ghosting and blurring.

You don't need to spend big bucks to get a good cable - just make sure you get one rated for high resolution.

cable problems

if you get the right cable you can go 150FT without an amp. ofcourse a signal amp is always helpfull. your problem could be that the cable quality is very poor, mixed with the conectors could be causing this problem. also the cable could not be sheilded properly, and geting interfeince from power, signal cables. also wierless signals can be an effect if you have the antena close to the cable it could also cause interferince
