Hooking stereo speakers to TV

Is there any way of hooking stereo speakers to a TV without having to use a stereo with it? In other words, is it possible to hook the speakers directly to the TV?(Even though the instructions for the TV say not to.)

If not, then what would you recommend? The speakers that came with our TV are lousy.

Depends on the TV and speakers...

In reply to: Hooking stereo speakers to TV

Some TVs only have the basic cable/antenna connection with no option to connect audio devices directly, some have just a headphone jack and component in, while others go much further enabling direct connection of speakers for surround sound. Thus, it really depends on that TV and speakers you have.
