Honda CRV vs Subaru Forester. I'm too cheap to pay

by Ray Harinec / October 30, 2003 5:32 PM PST

for a one time input from Consumer Reports Mag.

Anyone have the info for frequency of repair of these two vehicles ???

I'm going to buy a 2004 of one of them in the next week. Plan to keep it into the 100,000 + mile range.

Among other things, I wonder if Subaru's still need the timing chain replaced at 70,000 miles to preclude unplanned failure.

For good information and comparison input, check out the CRV forums at

BTW, we have a 2003 CRV EX and are very happy with it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what does this have to do with Computer Help?

I'm requesting help by use of a computer. Doesn't that qualify? LOL

I certainly got one very good answer.

I went to Intellichoice (, and here's what I found:

1. Both vehicles are rated as "excellent".

2. Warranties are identical with the exception of the powertrain (3yrs/36K mi for the CR-V, 5yrs/60K mi for the Forester).

3. The Forester is Intellichoice's "Best Value" in the compact SUV - over $20K category.

P.S. I really don't like trucks, and at least the Forester doesn't look trucklike. Of course, both vehicles are based on passenger car platforms (CR-V - Civic; Forester - Legacy), so that's a moot point, maybe?

...Intellichoice also noted that you'll pay about $2K more for the Sube...

was only, LOL, 1.5K more. Only wish that the Subaru rear window and door were like the CRV's. It was a tough decision.

Thanx all.

I guess that SE would be the proper forum but

don't want to post in there. Too many flakes, small percentage because most are great people, but the flakes make an issue over anything.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
