home wireless network adding a shared printer

Dec 11, 2009 10:26AM PST

My home network is connected to verizon fios via an Actiontec router. It has two desktop computers running Windows XP,each with it's own wired printer. I have added a new laptop running Vists and it is working ok accessing the internet. I would like to connect the laptop to the main printera HP all in one that is wireless ready. I am not sure how to accomplish this task. I went to the control panel that has the printer hardwired to it and tried to allow it to share. I get a warning that i need to use the wizzard, but not confident i understand what needs to be done. It keeps telling me I could allow unwanted access to my home network. Is there an easy step by step a novice could understand and do.

Home Wireless Network Adding a Shared Printer

I am getting ready to do this very same thing. My cable company installed my "wired/wireless" modem; I did not feel confident enough to work with "wireless" without backup; they install the modem and you set up the password.

I have tested the lap tops and they are on the network. So now I understand that all I have to do is load the printer software on the lap tops for the lap tops to begin using the printer wirelessly.

Thanks for your help a neighbor stopped over and set me straight last night. My error was I had to set the printer up to accept the wireless signal. After Vista found the printer it loaded the correct drivers and every thing is working.
