Question

Home TV Audio

Mar 4, 2016 1:29AM PST

Hi All,
Just a quick question about the Sonos Connect:Amp, we are currently installing a system into a newly built house which for the tv (Sony Bravia KDL65W857C) will include a Sonos Play Bar with an optical audio cable connected to the TV with also an ethernet connected to the Router for Music Playback, There is also going to be two installation speakers which i plan on connecting to a Sonos Connect:Amp to connect to the router and the TV, However i am unsure whether this will work, we spoke to richer sounds and they said that if you use a p120 amp it will work, but when i typed this into their website it came up with the Sonos Amp, does this mean that the sonos amp will work?

Many Thanks

Clarification Request
Not specific enough

It would likely work, but what do you mean by 'installation speakers'(?) You truly need to specify *all* makes models in your entire system, where it's all located and what sort of wiring is involved (including AV recievers, speakers, blu ray players, router brand/model, etc.).

So this is a new home and you aren't installing a proper surround sound system but instead Sonos? Just curious.

Home TV Audio

Sorry about that, we haven't decided yet on the ceiling mounted speakers they will be something along the lines of either two Cambridge Audio c165's or Monitor Audio CWT140 from Richer Sounds. These both have the standard speaker cable from them to the Sonos Amp, there will be the Play Bar with an optical audio cable to the TV and an ethernet cable to the switch then the router, there is a switch purely because of the fact there will be more Sonos Speakers upstairs along with WAP. The router is going to be a simple PlusNet one nothing fancy i cant remember exact make. There will be no Blu-ray players or any other external devices for the TV apart from the Sound System which wont be surround as the person who it is for is not madly into the idea of having or needing a surround sound system, also the higher cost involved. I was wondering whether or not on the back of the Sonos Amp there is a Component Audio input would the TV be able to plug into there and use the ceiling speakers for the TV along with the Soundbar and change between the two audio inputs being the TV and what would be an iPad with Spotify? The soundbar will be under the TV and the two ceiling speakers will be about where the sofa possibly further back as its intentions to be a music system for the kitchen and living room when needed as its one big open plan.

Still no digital inputs on the Sonos Amps AFAIK

That, along with the fact that it is truly an overpriced system, keep me from recommending them to friends. I have only had to install a single Sonos, and integrate it with an existing AV system. I still prefer other options.

Keep in mind you are limited to inputs that the Sonos playbar will accept, but don't forget that the Sony HDTV has to also play nice in the sandbox regarding which signal/ports may be used to send out an external audio signal. The Sonos amp & playbar alone are at least $1K. For that kind of money I want a real AV receiver with all the inputs, thank you very much Wink

The streaming functionality is where Sonos does quite well, and distributing it to the multiple pairs using their 'mesh' network. The required hardware gets pricey fast though.
