Home Theatre System (small)

Feb 22, 2006 10:57PM PST

Looking for a small home theatre system. A setup that is somewhat child friendly, meaning I don't need the sound of an airplane in my living room, but would like to obviously get a better sound going than the t.v., Is it better to have speakers mounted in the wall or ceiling or is is just as good to have the stands? I would also like for it to incorporate video and music.

NO H.T.I.B. A BETTER WAY TO GO

You can skimp on your amp, d,v,d, t.v. etc. But dont buy cheap speakers, no no. WHY Hi-Quality speakers will give you a lifetime of enjoyment, you will never have to replace them, you will love them forever and THEY WILL RETAIN THERE VALUE, If I had to do it over again I would have spent $3500 on speakers in the first place do it even if you have to make payments its worth it. I would say good speakers would start at about $1000 and go up from there good luck stewart

Obviously.....

.....you have no intention of watching the ''Pearl Harbor'' DVD, pity. It's a mediocre story but great audio/video effects.

I won't tell you who wins in case you've not seen it yet.

Many applicable posts already easily to be found:
My quick version: Good luck as your budget is quite modest. If you could see your way to close to $1000 budget, a very respectable expandable basic system is do-able. Also, two zones for speakers is easy; one receiver to throughout the whole house is unrealistic.
If you can, see those mentioned nearly identical question threads and aim for receiver $400-500, DVD player $250-350, for instance for real quality you won't regret.
My idea for the greatest cheapest speakers are Paradigm Atom $199/pr. These can be added onto/upgraded within the same brand line. Like the first pair could eventually be the surround speakers within matching brand for compatibility.
Good luck; good enjoyment!
