Home theater setup problems

by ttargee / July 3, 2007 8:12 AM PDT

Hello everyone! I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help me solve my home theater problems. I do a decent job of picking out good products, however, I know next to nothing about setting them up. To make this problem worse, I am a school teacher and have no money to pay someone to help me do this. At the same time, I want to get the most of my newly purchased items.

I recently purchased a Samsung 40" LCD television (LNS4095D), Polk Audio home theater speakers (RM6900), Onkyo receiver (TX-SR674), and an Oppo DVD player (DV-970HD). I also have Direct TV, which will be hooked up in a couple of days. The DVD player and Direct TV are/will be hooked up to the receiver via HDMI ins, and I have an HDMI cable running from the receiver out to the TV in. Therefore, everything is hooked up using HDMI cables, which is new to me.

Currently, my biggest problem (I'm sure that I'll have more) is that I have video, but no audio, when I am playing a DVD. I'm not sure what I did wrong or what the source of the problem is. I am specifically asking for advice on this topic, but I would welcome any other feedback that people may have in order to help my system work as efficiently as possible. Thank you.

On your DVD player go into setup/settings and select the correct audio output (HDMI).

Run all your vidio straight to the t.v then audio using optical audio cables direct to amp then all you do is switch inputs on your t.v. and inputs on your amp do not run vidio thru your amp also sometimes amp will not pass thru cable or satellite signal I mean run all your vidio straight to the t.v h.d.m.i. componit line whatever steweee
